LS & Impinj Into Identification Solutions In Korea
LS Industrial Systems and Impinj announced a partnership to deliver high-performance RFID solutions in Korea. Responding to significant demands from the Korean manufacturing sector for RFID-enabled logistics and distribution capability, LS will build and distribute a comprehensive RFID solution incorporating Impinj’s Speedway reader platform and Monza Gen2 tag chips. Available in February 2007, the LS RFID solution targets Korean product distributors, manufacturing companies and government entities requiring RFID technology to improve factory automation and supply chain efficiency. “Our goal is to quickly become the premier provider of high-performance RFID solutions in Korea,” said Ju Hwan Jung, Director, RFID Business Division, LS Industrial Systems. “This agreement to deliver comprehensive, world-class, ‘Powered by Impinj’ solutions to leading Korean companies represents an important step toward reaching that goal. By working with Impinj, we also ensure that Korean customers have unprecedented access to the highest performing, most reliable RFID technology available.”
“Our partnership with LS is a significant milestone in the worldwide proliferation of high-performance RFID technology,” said William Colleran, President & CEO, Impinj. “Korean customers will benefit immediately from the powerful combination of LS’ extensive hardware integration expertise and Impinj’s proven RFID technology. Together, we provide a superior RFID solution that dramatically improves supply chain efficiency.” Available now from VARs and OEM partners worldwide, “Powered by Impinj” RFID solutions comprising Monza tag chips and Speedway readers are successfully deployed in large North American retail and distribution environments. “Powered by Impinj” RFID solutions support pallet and case-level tracking applications and are also ideal for item-level tracking of pharmaceuticals, apparel, CD/DVDs and many other high-value products. Impinj’s Monza chips and Speedway readers carry both EPCglobal’s Gen2 Conformance Certification and Interoperability Certification marks. According to recent research from ABI Research, the South Korean market represents significant opportunity for high-performance RFID solutions providers. “The total South Korean RFID hardware market opportunity is expected to reach more than US$100 million in 2007, with supply chain management-related applications representing an estimated 10-15%,” said Michael Liard, Research Director, RFID & Contactless, ABI Research. “The agreement between LS and Impinj is an important development for many companies in the region who seek partner-based, complete high-performance UHF Gen2 RFID systems from local vendors.” |
